When I started nonprofit consulting, I truly wanted to avoid strategic planning. I rarely saw a decent or good strategic plan. The plans weren’t stakeholder informed and had the unrealistic expectation of getting a group of people in a room for a day to create and wordsmith a document. Bonkers!
I decided there had to be a better way. So I hit the books, did a lot of research, and used my expertise in qualitative data collection to design a process for strategic planning that is much more effective.
In this multi-part series, I break down each step in the process. Strategic planning is and should be just that - a process. In each episode, I break down one or two steps in the process: Proposal & Contracting, Discovery, Retreat, Plan, & Implementation. Listen in to hear about what a truly comprehensive strategic planning process looks like.
My hope is that this series will be a resource to anyone and everyone in the nonprofit space wanting a strategic plan that doesn’t just sit on a proverbial shelf, but rather one that is stakeholder-informed and data-driven.
